The Department of Culture has been in close contact with Lola Kenya Screen since its inception in 2005, especially with respect with their invaluable contribution in creating an essential bridge between film, the arts, media and development. The platform created by Lola Kenya screen has enhanced the inclusive participation in the development of arts and culture as a fundamental resource for sustainable development. It is gratifying to note that all forms of art and the practitioners in these fields converge at Lola Kenya Screen.
Silverse L Anami, OGW, Director of Culture, Office of the Vice-President and Ministry of State for National Heritage and Culture, Kenya.
Lola Kenya Screen is a noble organisation that aims at nurturing our raw talents to enable us to understand our society through the works of children.
Atanas Manyala Keya, Assistant Minister, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development, Kenya.
Holding a festival like this one in which the element of child 'Participation' is evident is a clear indication that you are walking with the child in terms of 'Development' as two of the four pillars of the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child; the others are Survival and Protection. It is wonderful to note that Lola Kenya Screen recognises that children are not passive or a powerless target group but capable communicators. Information sharing between children and adults should be based on mutual respect if we mean to make child participation genuine and effective. Lola Kenya Screen falls under the Development right of the child as per the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNCRC. Lola Kenya Screen has a great significance in the advancement of children's rights in the eastern Africa region and is indeed a great chance given to our children and youth to explore, identify and nurture their talents creatively.
Prof Jacqueline Oduol, Secretary, National Council for Children's Services, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development, Kenya.
